Family of Three Displaced After Early Morning Blaze Near Downtown Medford

Medford, Oregon- Early this morning, a fire broke out in an apartment building located in the 800 block of South Oakdale. Firefighters were dispatched at 3:12 AM and arrived to find a working fire on the first floor of a multi-family dwelling. Crews acted swiftly and were able to bring the fire under control within three minutes, significantly limiting damage to the building.

No injuries were reported in the incident. An adult and two young children, who were upstairs when the fire started, were safely evacuated after being alerted by a functioning smoke alarm. Fire officials praised the quick actions of the adult occupant, whose immediate response to the alarm ensured the safe evacuation of all three individuals.

The fire was determined to have been caused by the accidental failure of a ventilation fan. The family has been displaced as a result and is currently receiving assistance from the Red Cross.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of working smoke alarms, which played a crucial role in alerting the family to the fire. Fire officials recommend that residents test their smoke alarms monthly and replace the batteries annually or when the device emits a chirping sound.

Additionally, renters are encouraged to consider purchasing renters’ insurance, as most apartment policies do not cover personal belongings in the event of a fire.
