Roseburg, Oregon- Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control deputies initiated an investigation last week following a tip regarding a horse allegedly mistreated at a property situated in the 600-block of Longhorn Lane. The inquiry revealed no apparent connection between the horse and the property owner.
During the investigation, deputies encountered a 3-year-old mixed breed horse named Ace, exhibiting signs of severe malnourishment and neglectful living conditions. In response, Ace’s owner, 24-year-old Morgan Faith Fowler of Roseburg, voluntarily relinquished custody of the horse to deputies on Wednesday. Subsequently, authorities transferred Ace to a veterinary hospital for examination and later to the Strawberry Mountain Rescue and Rehabilitation Center.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to improve Ace’s condition, his health deteriorated rapidly overnight, necessitating euthanasia for humane purposes.
Following these developments, deputies apprehended Fowler on Thursday afternoon, charging her with Animal Neglect I and Animal Abuse II. She was then transported to the Douglas County Jail, where she was booked on said charges.
Sheriff John Hanlin condemned the situation, labeling it as a “very severe case of neglect and abuse.” He assured the public that the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is actively pursuing the investigation and will furnish all information to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
Individuals possessing any information pertaining to this case are urged to contact the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 541-440-4471, referencing case number #24-1522.
