White City, Oregon- On April 6, 2024, volunteers from the Red Cross, alongside members of the Jackson County Fire District 3, will unite to install over 300 free smoke alarms for local families at risk of home fires. This initiative, part of the national Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, aims to enhance community safety and reduce fire-related fatalities.
The event, titled Sound the Alarm, will kick off with remarks and volunteer training at the Jackson County Fire District 3 headquarters located at 8683 Agate Rd, White City, OR 97503.
The event will start at 9 am, followed by smoke alarm installations in area homes until 3:30 pm.Carisa Hettich, Executive Director of the Red Cross Southwest Oregon, will be present alongside representatives from Jackson County Fire District 3 to lead the initiative.
This event in White City is part of a broader national effort by the Red Cross to install 50,000 free smoke alarms in over 50 at-risk communities across the United States. Since its inception in October 2014, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign has contributed to saving over 2,060 lives, including 24 lives in the Cascades Region alone.
Sound the Alarm events play a pivotal role in raising awareness about fire safety and ensuring communities are adequately prepared for emergencies. By providing free smoke alarms and educating families on fire safety measures, this initiative aims to prevent tragedies and safeguard homes.
