Police Say House Fire Near Downtown Medford Possibly Arson

Medford, Oregon– Earlier this afternoon, officers from the Medford Police Department, in collaboration with the Medford Fire Department, responded to a residential structure fire located near the intersection of Narregan and Bliss streets.

The efforts of fire crews led to containment of the blaze and negated any risk of possible spread to surrounding homes. However, the house is damaged enough for the occupants to not be allowed to stay. Authorities say one civilian sustained minor injuries and was evaluated.

The cause behind the incident remains under investigation. However, authorities report an individual has been apprehended for questioning as authorities work to figure out their full involvement in the fire.

Additionally, the Medford Police Department is actively seeking witnesses to provide any information related to the case. If you witnessed the events surrounding this incident or have any relevant details, authorities urge you to come forward and assist in the investigation.

4/3/24 UPDATE: Medford Police released the following statement today:

31-year-old Candice Hastings has been arrested and charged with Arson, Animal Abuse, Reckless Burning and Resisting Arrest in relation to a residential fire that occurred on Tuesday, April 2.
