Suspect Shot During Alleged Burglary Attempt at Northwest Medford Home

MEDFORD, Ore. (Jun, 22, 2026) — A burglary suspect was shot and taken into custody Sunday night after allegedly breaking into a residence in northwest Medford, according to the Medford Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 10:47 p.m. on June 21 to the 800 block of Gilman Road following reports of a burglary in progress. Dispatchers were informed that a suspect was attempting to enter the home and that the homeowner had fired shots during the incident.

Police said the family inside the residence was able to safely leave the home and meet responding officers at a location away from the scene.

Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter around the residence. With assistance from police drone operators, officers located and communicated with the suspect, who remained inside the home.

The suspect was identified as 21-year-old Nathan Roberson. Authorities said Roberson was suffering from a gunshot wound when officers located him. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said Roberson remains in custody while receiving medical care. Investigators determined he is from out of state and had been staying at a nearby hotel prior to the incident.

No injuries to the residents or responding officers were reported.

The case remains under investigation. The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office has been consulted and will review the case before any formal charges are filed against the suspect.

The Medford Police Department thanked the Central Point Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and Oregon State Police for their assistance during the response.

Additional details have not yet been released.
