


Medford, Oregon- In a special ceremony today, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office bid farewell to two longtime figures in its ranks, Patrol deputies Eric Johnson and Mike Hermant, who marked their retirement after an illustrious 25-year journey in service to the community.
Sheriff Sickler presided over the heartfelt event, where both deputies were honored for their dedication. In recognition of their quarter-century commitment, Sheriff Sickler presented Johnson and Hermant with meticulously crafted shadow boxes, a fitting tribute for their years of service. The shadow boxes, crafted by Records Manager Walt Haussner, encapsulated the essence of their careers.
The poignant farewell extended to the airwaves as well, as both deputies completed their final radio sign-off with the Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO) 911 Dispatch, marking the end of a chapter that began on May 7, 1998.
Over their impressive careers, Deputies Johnson and Hermant traversed diverse roles within the JCSO, leaving an indelible mark on various units. They transitioned from roles in Corrections to the dynamic environment of Patrol and ultimately showcased their skills in the demanding SWAT Team.
Deputy Eric Johnson distinguished himself by serving as the Bureau of Land Management deputy for a significant duration of his career, navigating the expansive and challenging terrains of the Jackson County wilderness.
On the other hand, Deputy Mike Hermant, in addition to his duties on Patrol, assumed the critical role of an Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) instructor, contributing to the training and development of his fellow officers. His recent assignment as a Community Oriented Policing deputy underscored his commitment to fostering positive relationships within the community.
As Johnson and Hermant step into retirement, their legacy endures in the collective memory of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Their 25-year bond, from shared beginnings on May 7, 1998, serves as a testament to their enduring friendship and shared commitment to public service.
