Eugene, OR – In the early hours of Sunday morning, Eugene-Springfield Firefighters responded to three separate fires across the service area.
At 2:49a, emergency crews responded to 11th and Oak Alley following reports of smoke inside a local business. Upon arrival, they discovered an exterior fire that had breached the building. Quick action by the firefighters of the Eugene Springfield Fire Department (ESFD) not only extinguished the flames but also ensured the removal of smoke, preventing further damage to the interior of the business.
Shortly thereafter, at 3:54a, firefighters were summoned to a house fire in the Fox Hollow/Amazon area. Firefighters conducted a thorough search for occupants and successfully extinguished the fire. Unfortunately, the residence sustained significant damage, rendering it uninhabitable. The Red Cross is currently providing assistance to the six displaced residents.
A third incident unfolded at 06:13a when reports of smoke in the Eugene Hotel, a retirement apartment building, prompted a large response. Residents were evacuating into the lobby, describing smoke on multiple floors. The source of the issue was identified as a fully involved dumpster on the back side of the building. Firefighters extinguished the fire, removed the dumpster from the building, and spent the following hours clearing smoke from the lobby and upper floors. No injuries were reported among the residents or firefighters involved in any of these incidents.
All three fires are now under investigation as authorities work to determine their origins and any potential connections.
