At approximately 5:02 PM this evening, emergency services responded to reports of a fire at the Lynn Street power substation, situated just off North Pacific Highway in NW Medford. Units from the Medford Fire Department (MFD) and one unit from Jackson County Fire District 3 (JCFD3) were initially dispatched, along with Pacific Power crews.
Three MFD units, along with one JCFD3 arrived on scene, shortly after the first callout. However, the single JCFD3 unit was released shortly after arrival. Firefighters from MFD faced challenges in approaching the flames due to the inherent dangers associated with the substation, housing “115,000-volt” (Pacific Power) equipment.
A witness told Medford Alert that they were next to the substation when they heard a loud noise preceded by the quick ignition of the fire.

Pacific Power deployed at least two crews to the scene, actively working to address the situation and ensure safety in the surrounding area. As of tonight, there have been no reported injuries, and only a single Pacific Power customer has been affected by the incident.
Pacific Power lists the incident currently as a “substation problem,” and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
