SANDY, Ore. (Jul. 27, 2026) — A Medford truck driver was killed late Thursday after the semi-truck he was driving struck the rear of another disabled commercial truck on U.S. Highway 26 near Sandy, according to the Oregon State Police.
The crash occurred at about 10:37 p.m. Thursday near milepost 31.5, close to East Terra Fern Drive in Clackamas County.
State police said a red Freightliner semi-truck pulling three trailers, driven by 36-year-old Colton Wayne Adams of Bend, was traveling westbound when it overheated and came to a stop in the westbound travel lane.
Investigators said a white Volvo semi-truck pulling three trailers, operated by 62-year-old James Glenn Fisher of Medford, subsequently struck the rear of the disabled Freightliner.
Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene. Adams was not injured, according to state police.
The Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate the crash. The specialized unit investigates fatal and serious injury crashes across Oregon using advanced reconstruction techniques, including aerial mapping and detailed scene analysis.
Highway 26 was affected for approximately five hours while investigators examined the scene and crews cleared the roadway.
The Oregon State Police were assisted by the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas Fire District, Hoodland Fire District and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash remains under investigation.
