Drugs and Firearms Discovered After Hours-Long Oregon Standoff

In the early hours of Friday morning, Gresham Police swiftly responded to a report of a shooting in a residential area near SW Highland Dr. and SW 11th St. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident, but responding officers discovered evidence of gunfire at the scene. Simultaneously, nearby residents reported a person banging on their door and making threats.

The suspect involved in this incident has been identified as 39-year-old Gino Brown, a resident of Gresham. Mr. Brown was located in a nearby apartment, but he initially refused to cooperate with law enforcement. Given the armed and uncooperative nature of the situation, nearby neighbors were asked to seek shelter in their homes while officers contained Brown’s apartment.

Officers dedicated several hours to negotiating with Mr. Brown, ultimately resulting in his peaceful surrender shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Following his arrest, Mr. Brown began exhibiting medical symptoms that were potentially related to drug use. As a precautionary measure, he was promptly transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

Detectives subsequently obtained a search warrant for Mr. Brown’s apartment, where they uncovered multiple firearms and suspected drugs. It was revealed that Brown is a convicted felon with an extensive criminal record, which includes prior unlawful possession of firearms. As a felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Once released from the hospital, Mr. Brown was booked into jail on charges of Menacing, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

Detectives from the Gresham Police Department and the Metro Safe Streets Task Force continue to investigate Mr. Brown’s conduct, with the possibility of additional charges pending further examination of the case.
