Jackson County Citizen Alert Test Taking Place During the Great ShakeOut Drill

Prepare to participate in the Great ShakeOut, the world’s largest earthquake drill, happening on October 19 at 10:19 AM. This global event encourages millions of individuals across Oregon and beyond to practice the essential earthquake safety protocol: Drop, Cover, and Hold On.

The Great ShakeOut serves as an annual reminder to assess disaster preparedness, enhance emergency safety plans, and rehearse the necessary steps in the event of a real earthquake. This practice is crucial for people in homes, schools, and businesses. Taking a few small steps ahead of time can significantly increase your readiness. Assemble a basic emergency supply kit and establish your shelter strategy to ensure that you and your family know what to do and have the necessary supplies for safety, regardless of where you are. In conjunction with the Great ShakeOut, Jackson County will conduct a test of the Citizen Alert notification system. This service provides critical information swiftly in various emergency situations.

To raise awareness and educate the public on disaster preparedness, residents registered with Citizen Alert will receive a test alert through all designated delivery methods, including calls, texts, and emails, between 10 AM and 2 PM.
