Despite recent rainy conditions, fire season and low fire danger levels remain in effect in Jackson and Josephine counties, and this week’s weather forecast is exactly the reason why.
Fall-like conditions persist today, but the US National Weather Service Medford Oregon office is predicting temperatures into the high 80’s for the remainder of the week. Even though the region has experienced quite a bit of rain in the last couple of weeks, these warm temperatures naturally increase the risk for fires to start and spread.
Fire officials are urging residents to help finish out this fire season strong and prevent fires by following all current regulations. These regulations can be found on the Southwestern Oregon Fire Protection website: https://swofire.com/public-fire-restrictions/
One crucial regulation in place is the prohibition of debris burning. Fire experts warn that debris burns started too early in the fall have the potential to reignite in conditions exactly like what is expected this week. Residents are encouraged to protect their homes and neighborhoods by partnering with local authorities in fire prevention efforts.
With the threat of fires still looming despite recent rain, the community’s vigilance and adherence to fire prevention measures are vital to ensure the safety of Jackson and Josephine counties during this remaining fire season.
