In the early hours of Friday morning at 2:24 a.m., Medford Fire received a call from the Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon (ECSO 911), alerting them to an apartment fire at 747 Highland Dr. The incident unfolded rapidly, with fire crews arriving to an active fire that had already extended into two dwelling units and threatened an adjacent building.
Quick action by Medford Police personnel also played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of several tenants. Their efforts included alerting residents and helping occupants to escape the dwellings. Despite the intensity of the fire, only one occupant sustained minor burns. This individual was treated on-site by Mercy Flights Ambulance personnel and subsequently released.
As the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire continues, Medford Fire Investigators are working to uncover the details behind this incident. Meanwhile, the Medford Fire Chaplin group, with the support of the Red Cross, is spearheading efforts to assist the nine displaced occupants in their time of need.
