“Golden Fire” in Klamath County Prompts Evacuations

At approximately 12:55p today, multiple fire crews and emergency units were dispatched to a fast moving grass fire in Klamath County.

The original callout was near Golden Eagle Drive and OR140, just east of Klamath Falls.

As of 4:50p, the Golden Fire is estimated at 170 acres. Klamath County Fire District 3 reported multiple structures are threatened.

Klamath County has issued a LEVEL 3 GO NOW Evacuation Notice for the following areas: Bly Mt from Kodiac Rd south to Coyote Rd east of OR140.


As of 5:12p, officials state the fire is approximately 200 acres and rapidly spreading to the east.

The fire cause is under investigation. There are multiple air, structural, and wildland resources working on the fire with more on order. At this time there are multiple structures threatened.

Residents in the area should monitor the current evacuation status as this incident progresses. The public is asked to stay away from the fire area for safety reasons.

At the request of the Fire Incident Commander, Klamath County Emergency Management has issued a Level 3 GO NOW evacuation for the area east of Highway 140E, between Polar Bear and Coyote Lane. Klamath County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, a structural strike team, and Oregon State Police are in the process of evacuating affected residents.

An Incident Management team is being ordered to take command of the fire.


6:25p Red Cross Cascades has opened an evacuation shelter in response to the Golden Fire burning northeast of Klamath Falls. Shelter location is: Bonanza Schools, 31610 Mission St, Bonanza, OR, 97623


9:00p LEVEL 3 GO NOW Evacuations issued for Bly Mtn residents East of OR140 and North of Keno Springs Rd.


7/23 9:08a Fire officials have reported the wildfire to be at 2,000 acre with 0% containment.

Current LEVEL 3 GO NOW Evacuations: East of Highway 140E, south of Polar Bear Lane and north of Keno Springs Road.
