Firefighters Halt South Ashland Grass Fire Near Gas Station

A grass fire was reported earlier today near a 76 gas station located in south Ashland, prompting a swift response from multiple fire departments. The Ashland Fire Department, Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), and Jackson County Fire District 5 (JCFD5) all mobilized to tackle the situation.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed visible smoke emanating from the southern part of Ashland. The initial call indicated a grass fire in a picnic area behind the gas station. A gas station attendant quickly shut off the fuel supply and evacuated the entire complex as a precautionary measure.

As the incident unfolded, traffic on nearby Clover Lane experienced disruptions due to the firefighting efforts. However, firefighters efficiently brought the blaze under control, limiting its spread to approximately one-tenth of an acre. Thankfully, the fire did not reach the nearby propane tanks, which had raised initial concerns.

During the incident, the City of Ashland took proactive steps to keep residents informed, although no evacuations were deemed necessary. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with authorities working to determine its origin and any contributing factors.

The coordinated response by the Ashland Fire Department, ODF, and Jackson County Fire District 5 played a pivotal role in swiftly containing the grass fire. Their quick actions and effective coordination helped prevent further damage and potential hazards.
