In a recent City Council meeting, the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement (MADGE) and their interagency task force team, consisting of detectives and crime analysts from the Medford Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, were presented with the prestigious Team Award by the City of Medford, Local Government. The accolade recognized their exceptional efforts during a comprehensive two-year investigation that led to the dismantling of a far-reaching drug distribution network.

Since February 2020, MADGE detectives have been working on a case involving a notorious drug dealer and his trafficking organization responsible for the large-scale distribution of cocaine in Jackson County. Their investigation uncovered crucial evidence confirming that the cocaine was being funneled from the Mexico border through ports in California and Texas, with a Mexican cartel identified as the primary source. The drugs were then transported to Oregon, specifically targeting the Medford area for distribution.
On January 24, 2023, MADGE and the Illegal Marijuana Enforcement Team (IMET) detectives executed search warrants on the main suspect and his co-conspirators. Over the course of five days, with the support of Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies, Oregon State Police, the Rogue Area Drug Enforcement Team (RADE), Grants Pass Police Department, the Department of Homeland Security, and MPD detectives, the task force executed a total of 28 search warrants across various locations within Jackson County.
The operation resulted in the identification of 26 individuals involved in this intricate drug trafficking organization. Detectives successfully seized a significant quantity of illicit drugs, firearms, and a substantial amount of cash, further disrupting the network’s operations and preventing harm to the community.
The Medford Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received the well-deserved recognition for their unwavering dedication and remarkable work on this intricate investigation. Their commitment to ensuring the safety of the community was commended during the award ceremony.
City Manager Brian Sjothun expressed his gratitude, stating, “The team members receiving this award take great satisfaction in the positive impact that they have made on our community. Together, they have made Medford a better place to live, work, and play.” The City of Medford commends the collaborative efforts of these law enforcement agencies, highlighting their crucial role in combating drug trafficking and maintaining a secure environment for all residents.
The Team Award serves as a testament to the exemplary teamwork, expertise, and commitment demonstrated by the Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement and their dedicated partners in bringing down a significant drug trafficking operation.
