Prescribed Burns Near Roxy Ann Peak Continue

ODF brush crews are back working on fuel reduction in Prescott Park near Roxy Ann Peak. That work will include prescribed fire; be aware of potential smoke in the area and watch for any trail closures.

ODF originally began this work back in January. Through this project, 15 acres of the park will be treated. The work consists of clearing out dead or dying vegetation and removing dense brush in an effort to reduce fuels in the park. Officials say by doing this work now, it will help cut down on the risk of a wildfire in the area, or slow the rate of spread in the event of one. Today, firefighters are treating two of the 15 acres in the project. Depending on the weather, work may continue throughout the week.

This is the same type of work ODF encourages landowners to be doing on their property; by removing fuels that will quickly ignite in a wildfire, firefighters can more easily protect and defend a home.
