Two Dead, Suspect Shot, After Dangerous Standoff in Josephine County

On Sunday March 6, 2022, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office received a report that a person witnessed a murder in the 3400 block of Lakeshore Drive in Selma, Oregon. Deputies responded with Troopers from the Oregon State Police.

Upon arrival, Deputies located two deceased persons in the driveway of a residence. An armed person then confronted Deputies and Troopers leading to a standoff which lasted almost an hour. This rapidly evolving and dangerous situation escalated to a point where two Deputies fired their weapons despite efforts to deescalate the situation.

Deputies on scene provided medical aid to the armed person who was then transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition. No Deputies were injured during the incident.

Per standard procedure, the two Deputies who fired their weapons are on paid administrative leave and they are not being identified at this time. 

Initial responders were assisted by Illinois Valley Fire Department, AMR and Mercy Flights.

The Josephine County Major Crimes Team has been activated to investigate this incident which consists of Grants Pass Police Department, Oregon State Police, Josephine County Sheriff’s Office and Josephine County District Attorney’s Office. The Grants Pass Police Department is the lead investigative agency for the officer involved shooting while Oregon State Police is the lead investigative agency for the two deceased persons located at the scene.
