MEDFORD, Ore. (Jul. 11, 2026) — Motorists traveling through Jackson County should plan for delays next week as highway maintenance projects on Interstate 5 and Oregon Highway 238 bring rolling slowdowns, lane restrictions, and flagger-controlled traffic.
On Monday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., maintenance crews will apply pavement striping in both the northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 between the Oregon-California border and Exit 11 (South Ashland).
Drivers should expect rolling slowdowns while crews complete the work. During a rolling slowdown, pilot cars lead traffic at a reduced but continuous speed through the work zone, allowing fresh pavement markings to dry while minimizing the need for full highway closures. Emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through the work zone as needed.
Later in the week, crews will shift to Oregon Highway 238 (Jacksonville Highway), where pavement repairs are scheduled for Wednesday, July 15, and Thursday, July 16, from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The work will take place west of Medford between West Main Street and Ross Lane, where crews will repair cracked and rutted pavement.
Traffic will be reduced to a single lane through the construction zone, with flaggers and pilot cars directing vehicles. Delays are expected to remain under 20 minutes, but motorists should anticipate reduced speeds and allow additional travel time.
Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, remain alert for workers and equipment, and consider alternate routes if possible to avoid delays.
The work is weather dependent, and schedules may change if conditions require.
