MEDFORD, Ore. (May. 1, 2026) — A Medford man was sentenced Friday to 30 years in federal prison for sexually abusing a minor in his care and distributing child sexual abuse material, federal prosecutors said.
David Michael Burnett, 37, received a sentence of 360 months in prison followed by a lifetime term of supervised release, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Oregon.
Court documents said Burnett began sending five videos in June 2024 that showed him sexually abusing the child victim. During the investigation, authorities seized Burnett’s electronic devices and found more than 300 videos and nearly 8,000 images of child sexual abuse material.
A federal grand jury in Medford returned a two-count indictment against Burnett on Aug. 1, 2024, charging him with sexual exploitation of children and distribution of child pornography.
Burnett pleaded guilty to both counts on Feb. 3, 2026.
U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford announced the sentence.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Medford Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Judith Harper prosecuted the case.
Federal officials said the prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse through coordination among federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
