GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Apr. 29, 2026) — A threatening phone call to North Valley High School on Wednesday morning prompted a lockdown at the campus and heightened security measures across the Three Rivers School District, authorities said.
The threat was reported at 10:48 a.m., according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office. Officials did not disclose the exact nature of the threat, citing investigative reasons.
Deputies with the sheriff’s office and troopers with the Oregon State Police responded immediately to North Valley High School. Because of the seriousness of the statements made during the call, the school was placed on lockdown while law enforcement officers searched the campus, both inside and outside.
Authorities said no weapons or suspicious items were found during the search.
All other schools in the Three Rivers School District were placed in secure status for the rest of the day. Under that protocol, exterior doors remained locked and normal indoor classroom activities continued, but outdoor activities were canceled.
Law enforcement officers remained at each district school through the end of the school day as a precaution.
Sheriff Dave Daniel said officials appreciated the public’s patience during what he described as an unsettling incident. He also thanked the Oregon State Police and the Grants Pass Police Department for assisting in the response.
Investigators said the incident remains under investigation, but no ongoing threat to any Three Rivers School District campus has been identified.
No additional information was immediately released.
