MEDFORD, Ore. (Apr. 11, 2026) — A 31-year-old convicted felon was sentenced Friday to more than five years in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms on multiple occasions, authorities said.
Devon James Wright was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
According to court documents, Wright was found with firearms during two separate incidents in 2024. On June 23, Wright was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation. Officers discovered a semi-automatic pistol and a full magazine inside his backpack. At the time, Wright was on parole for a prior conviction for unlawfully possessing a firearm.
In a second incident on Oct. 26, Wright was stopped while riding in a stolen vehicle. Before exiting, authorities said he placed a loaded handgun into another occupant’s purse, next to a fully loaded extended magazine.
A federal grand jury in Medford indicted Wright on March 6, 2025, on two counts of felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty to both charges on Dec. 8, 2025.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, with assistance from the Portland Police Bureau and the Central Point Police Department. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Melissa E. LeRitz and John C. Brassell.
