Motorcyclist Airlifted After Crash Near Galice; Gunshot Used to Alert Others

GALICE, Ore. (Mar. 30, 2026) — A motorcyclist was airlifted to a Medford-area trauma hospital Sunday evening after crashing near Peavine Road and Rich Gulch, according to Rural Metro Fire – Josephine County.

Emergency crews were dispatched at about 6:08 p.m., but the initial response was delayed due to poor cell phone connectivity between the injured rider and 911 dispatchers in Grants Pass. Authorities said the rider discharged a firearm in an effort to alert others in their party to the crash.

Responders from Rural Metro Fire – Josephine County and AMR-Josephine County located the rider in a ravine and carried out a technical rescue to extract the rider from the steep terrain.

The rider was transported to a landing zone at Morrisons Rogue River Lodge, where a helicopter from Mercy Flights airlifted the patient to a regional trauma center. Officials have not released the rider’s condition.

No additional details about the cause of the crash were immediately available.
