MEDFORD, Ore. (Mar. 5, 2026) — A 33-year-old man was arrested in connection with an early-morning drive-by shooting that struck an apartment in Medford but left no one injured, police said.
Officers with the Medford Police Department responded at about 1:50 a.m. March 4 to reports of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 800 block of Swing Lane. When officers arrived, they found the apartment had been struck by multiple gunshots, though no injuries were reported.
Investigators later identified a possible suspect and a vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting. Using Automated License Plate Reader technology, officers located the vehicle around 9:45 a.m. in the parking lot of the south Walmart Supercenter.
Police deployed a drone to monitor the area and observed the suspect exiting the vehicle and walking toward the store. Officers detained the man before he reached the entrance and arrested him without incident.
Police identified the suspect as 33-year-old Bryce W. Kleinhanz. He was taken to the Medford Police Department for questioning while detectives served a search warrant on his vehicle, where investigators said they recovered evidence connected to the shooting.
Kleinhanz was later lodged at the Jackson County Jail on charges of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, unlawful use of a weapon, first-degree criminal mischief and recklessly endangering another person.
Investigators believe Kleinhanz knew the occupants of the apartment and that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the parties involved.
Police said the firearm used in the incident has been recovered and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
