Two Separate Medford Structure Fires Reported Within Two Hours

MEDFORD, Ore. (Feb. 25, 2026) — Crews responded to two separate structure fires Monday night, quickly extinguishing both blazes and preventing injuries, according to the Medford Fire Department.

The first fire was reported at 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Newtown Street. Firefighters were dispatched to a report of flames coming from the back of a structure. Engine 12 arrived on scene and quickly knocked down the fire, officials said.

Thanks to crews’ rapid response, the fire was contained near its area of origin, resulting in minimal damage to the rest of the structure.

The home was under construction, and no one was inside at the time of the fire. Investigators determined the blaze was caused by multiple lithium-ion batteries that appeared to have exploded underneath kitchen cabinets.

“We encourage everyone to be mindful when charging their batteries and never to leave them unattended.”

About two hours later, at 10:45 p.m., crews responded to another reported structure fire in the 700 block of Lozier Lane. Firefighters worked alongside the Jacksonville Fire Department.

Engine 12 and Engine 19 crews located a small fire in the center of the kitchen, which was quickly extinguished using a water can, officials said.

No one was found inside or near the home at the time of the fire, and the cause remains under investigation.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians in either incident.
