Dog-of-the-Week: Cuddly “Tomato” Looking for New Family

PHOENIX, Ore. (Feb. 11, 2026) — Medford Alert News has named Tomato, a 1-year-old male neutered red pit bull, as our Jackson County Animal Services, Dog-of-the-Week.

Tomato weighs about 68 pounds and is described by shelter staff as people-oriented and cuddly, with the high energy typical of a young dog. He enjoys outdoor adventures, walks well on a leash — though he may pull when excited — and knows basic cues such as “sit.” He is attentive to his handler and motivated by both treats and toys, making him a strong candidate for continued training.

His playful, active style may be too energetic for homes with small children. Tomato has participated in canine play groups and can be selective about playmates, so a meet-and-greet with any resident dogs is recommended.

Those interested in meeting Tomato can contact the Jackson County Animal Shelter at 541-774-6654 and press 5 for adoptions.

Medford Alert News also reports that five Schipperkes from the Eagle Point dog abuse case — Pretzels, Pringles, Pistachio, Pesto and Popcorn — are now available for adoption and can be viewed online at 24 Pet Connect by clicking here.
