WOLF CREEK, Ore. (Jan. 23, 2026) — Firefighters with the Oregon Department of Forestry quickly contained the McCoy Creek Fire southeast of Wolf Creek on Friday after the blaze burned just under 14 acres.
The fire was reported around noon and crews were able to stop its forward spread the same day, lining the perimeter and preventing additional growth. Officials said resources will remain on scene through the weekend to complete mop-up operations, secure the fire’s edges and investigate what sparked the blaze.

Forestry officials said the incident underscores that wildfire risk in southern Oregon is not limited to the summer months. Prolonged dry stretches during winter can dry out vegetation enough to allow fires to ignite and spread, even in January.
With dry conditions forecast to continue, the Oregon Department of Forestry urged residents to use caution with outdoor activities and remain aware of fire risk as the region heads toward the upcoming fire season.
