Eagle Point Woman Charged With 88 Felonies in Large-Scale Animal Abuse Case

EAGLE POINT, Ore. (Jan. 14, 2026) — A Jackson County grand jury has indicted a 74-year-old woman on 88 felony counts related to animal abuse and neglect following the discovery of dozens of dogs, both living and deceased, at an Eagle Point residence, prosecutors announced today.

The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office said the grand jury on Jan. 13, 2026, returned an indictment against Jana Dene Tepper, charging her with one count of aggravated animal abuse in the first degree, 29 counts of felony animal neglect in the first degree and 58 counts of felony animal neglect in the second degree.

The charges stem from a search warrant executed on Jan. 6, 2026, at a home in the 400 block of Crystal Drive by the Eagle Point Police Department. Authorities said officers rescued 58 dogs from the property and discovered 30 deceased dogs inside the residence.

Prosecutors said each felony count corresponds to an individual animal found during the search.

Tepper is scheduled to be arraigned on the indictment at 1:45 p.m. today. She remains in custody at the Jackson County Jail, where bail has been set at $100,000.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Madelyn Reese.

Due to the ongoing criminal proceedings, the district attorney’s office said no additional details will be released at this time.

All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The year of the search warrant execution was originally listed wrong, that has been adjusted to reflect the correct date.
