JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. (Jan. 8, 2026) — A single-vehicle crash on Highway 199 in Josephine County left one passenger dead and the driver injured Tuesday morning, according to Oregon State Police.
Troopers responded at about 8:50 a.m. Jan. 7 to the crash near milepost 10. Investigators said a northbound Toyota Tundra driven by Marisha Lynn Trainor, 52, of Eugene, reportedly swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway, lost control and rolled multiple times along the highway shoulder before coming to rest on its roof.
Trainor suffered reported minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, police said.
A passenger in the vehicle, Teddie Dianne Tibbets, 47, of Selma, was declared dead at the scene.
The highway was impacted for approximately one hour during the on-scene investigation. Oregon State Police were assisted by Grants Pass Fire, Rural Metro Fire and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
The crash is being investigated with support from the Oregon State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, a specialized team that handles fatal and critical injury collisions on Oregon highways using advanced documentation, analysis and investigative techniques.
