MEDFORD, Ore. (Dec. 12, 2025) — Fire crews responded to a two-alarm structure fire Friday morning in the 2200 block of Biddle Road after an off-duty firefighter reported smoke and flames coming from the south side of the building.
As crews were en route, the incident was upgraded to a second alarm because of known hazards at the location. First-arriving firefighters encountered smoke showing from a first-floor window and began a defensive fire attack while conducting a search for potential victims.
The fire was quickly knocked down before it could spread to other rooms in the structure, officials said. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The property — a former hotel and restaurant later used as a low-income housing complex — has been declared an unsafe building and a public nuisance. City officials said efforts are continuing to address unauthorized occupancy and to secure the site.
Fire officials thanked Jackson County Fire District 3, Medford Police and Mercy Flights Inc. for their assistance during the incident.
