Search for Missing Oregon Hunter Suspended After Weeklong Effort

MT. HOOD, Ore. (Nov 7, 2025)- The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday it has suspended active search and rescue operations for Devon Dobek, 51, of Hubbard, who has been missing for a week in the Mount Hood National Forest.

The decision came on November 7, marking the end of a seven-day, large-scale search that began October 31 after Dobek’s truck was found near the Fish Creek Trailhead, an area with little to no cell service and steep terrain scarred by the 2020 wildfires.

“Over the seven-day period, volunteers contributed more than 4,000 personnel hours searching the Mount Hood National Forest in the area surrounding where Devon’s truck was found,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

Authorities said the search involved a wide range of specialized resources, including technical ground teams, helicopters, airplanes, drones equipped with thermal cameras, K9 units, ATVs, and cell phone tracking specialists.

Despite the suspension of the active search, officials emphasized the case remains open. “The effort to locate Devon Dobek continues, as this remains an active missing person investigation,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Our thoughts remain with Devon’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

The agency expressed gratitude to dozens of partners who assisted in the search, including Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue, Portland Mountain Rescue, Mountain Wave Emergency Communications, Hood River Crag Rats, multiple county sheriff’s offices, and state and federal agencies such as the Oregon Army National Guard, the FBI, and the U.S. Forest Service.

Authorities said additional searches may resume if new information or evidence emerges.

Anyone with information about Dobek’s disappearance is urged to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 503-723-4949, or submit a tip online via the Sheriff’s Office website or the ClackCo Sheriff mobile app, referencing Case #25-022972.
