Oregon Regulators Approve Rate Increase for Avista Natural Gas Customers

Salem, Oregon- The Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) has approved an overall rate increase for Avista natural gas customers, set to take effect October 31, 2025.

The adjustment stems from several annual filings, including changes related to natural gas prices, energy efficiency investments, and customer support programs.

For a typical residential customer using an average of 46 therms per month, the change will mean an increase of about $1.75, or 2.56%, raising the average monthly bill to roughly $70.18. The exact amount will vary depending on customer type and energy usage.

Each year, the PUC reviews actual natural gas costs and adjusts rates through the Purchased Gas Adjustment (PGA) process, which allows utilities to pass along fuel costs to customers without a markup. This year, moderate gas prices and prior overcollections by Avista led to a decrease in natural gas costs for customers.

However, other approved adjustments — including updates to fund energy efficiency and customer programs — resulted in a net increase. Altogether, the changes will boost Avista’s total revenue by about $4.1 million.

“Our goal is to ensure Avista’s rates reflect the true cost of providing service and are fair and reasonable for customers,” said PUC Chair Letha Tawney. “We carefully review all filings to ensure customers see accurate rates that reflect both market changes and essential utility costs.”
