Medford, Oregon- The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office announced an 18-year, four-month prison sentence for a repeat violent offender convicted in two separate robbery cases from 2023 and 2025.
District Attorney Patrick Green prosecuted 54-year-old Michael Ray Hastings of Medford, who was convicted by a jury on first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon stemming from a February 1, 2025, incident at the Quick In N Out Market on Stevens Street in Central Medford.
Prosecutors said Hastings and a co-defendant were stealing merchandise when Hastings pulled a knife and threatened to stab a store clerk who attempted to stop them. The jury found Hastings guilty on all counts and approved a sentencing enhancement after learning that he committed the robbery while on release for a prior robbery in 2023.
On October 15, 2025, Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Pro Tem Paul Moser sentenced Hastings to 130 months in prison, 40 months longer than the mandatory minimum under Measure 11, with the remaining counts ordered to run concurrently.
Hastings later entered no contest pleas in his earlier 2023 case, which involved first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm, and first-degree burglary.
That case originated on May 14, 2023, in Prospect, where Hastings confronted his intimate partner, fired a shotgun at her vehicle while she was standing nearby, and threatened to kill her. He then took her purse and fled before deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office arrived.
Two days later, a resident in the Prospect area reported finding Hastings inside his home, where Hastings had stolen two beers. Hastings fled before deputies located him nearby and took him into custody.
On October 28, 2025, Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Christine Herbert sentenced Hastings to an additional 90-month Measure 11 term for first-degree robbery, to run consecutively to the 130-month sentence in the 2025 case. The total combined sentence is 220 months, or 18 years and four months in prison. The remaining counts were ordered to run concurrently.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Hastings has a long criminal record with prior convictions for violent offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon in 1996 in California, drive-by shooting in 2001 in Arizona, and assaulting an intimate partner in 2014 in California.
Both robbery cases were prosecuted by District Attorney Patrick Green of the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
