Ashland, Oregon- Ashland Police confirmed Sunday morning that an ongoing investigation in the city’s downtown core is a homicide case, prompting the activation of a multi-agency task force.
Authorities said the Jackson County Major Assault/Death Investigation Unit (MADIU) has been called in to lead the case. The unit includes personnel from the Oregon State Police, Medford Police Department, the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab.
Around 3:39a this morning, officers responded to the area of ‘A’ Street and 2nd Street for an emergency call. Soon after, the area was taped-off to the public while authorities urged community members to avoid the scene. Police later confirmed the case involves a homicide.
“There is no indicated threat to the public,” the department said in a statement.
Investigators have not released further details about the victim, suspect information, or circumstances surrounding the death. Authorities said more information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
Residents are asked to continue avoiding the affected area while law enforcement remains on scene.
