Police Arrest Suspect in July Drive-By Shootings in Northeast Medford

Medford, Oregon- Police in Medford have arrested a man in connection with a pair of drive-by shootings reported in late July in northeast Medford.

Detectives on Wednesday arrested 31-year-old Joel Matthew Caswell in relation to the incidents, which occurred July 26 and 27 in the 3600 block of Carnelian Street near Owen Drive. Caswell was identified early in the investigation because of his relationship with one of the victims, police said.

Investigators used video evidence and other leads to associate Caswell with a blue Dodge pickup previously shared with the public. Police said multiple pieces of evidence linked him to the shootings.

Caswell was booked into the Jackson County Jail on two counts each of unlawful use of a weapon, recklessly endangering another person and first-degree criminal mischief. He remains on federal supervised pre-trial release after being arrested by the FBI in April on multiple fraud-related charges. Police said they are coordinating with federal investigators.

No injuries were reported in the July incidents.

The Medford Police Department thanked community members for providing information that assisted the investigation.

All suspects are believed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
