Ashland Woman Arrested in Alleged Vehicular Assault of Pedestrian in Wheelchair

Ashland, Oregon- A 22-year-old Ashland woman was arrested Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run incident earlier this month that left a pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair injured, police said.

Detectives from the Ashland Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division arrested Lola Jackson on June 12 at a residence on Phelps Street in Ashland. She faces multiple charges, including reckless driving, hit-and-run involving injury, second-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and vehicular assault of a pedestrian.

According to police, the charges stem from an incident that occurred around 1:30 a.m. on June 7 near 615 Clay Street. Investigators said Jackson intentionally struck a person in a motorized wheelchair with her vehicle, throwing the victim from the wheelchair.

The victim was transported by Ashland Fire & Rescue to Rogue Regional Medical Center with injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.

Jackson allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived, prompting an “attempt to locate” bulletin for felony assault and unlawful use of a weapon—referring to the vehicle involved in the alleged assault.

Ashland police said they pursued the investigation diligently over several days before locating and arresting Jackson. She was lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim. The investigation is ongoing.
