Medford, Oregon- Firefighters knocked down a blaze Wednesday morning at a residential building in Medford that formerly operated as a Ramada Inn and was later converted into long-term housing for survivors of the 2020 Almeda Fire, officials said. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported, and the unit where the fire broke out was unoccupied at the time. The overall complex is mostly empty as plans to update and remodel the small units are moving forward.
The property is owned by Fortify Holdings, which manages several low-income and government-subsidized housing complexes throughout the Medford area.
Due to the size of the facility and the need for extensive search and suppression efforts, the fire response was elevated to a second alarm to bring in additional resources.
As of the latest update, fire crews remained on scene conducting overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished. Medford Fire personnel and Deputy Fire Marshals were also working to ventilate the building, clear smoke, and begin an investigation into the cause of the fire.
There are no reported traffic impacts in the area. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
