Medford, Oregon- The Bureau of Land Management has reopened the Rogue River National Recreation Trail after a major landslide forced a temporary closure. Crews from BLM’s Veteran Crew 10, alongside recreation staff, cleared the landslide and constructed a re-routed path around a large boulder. Additional trail maintenance included the removal of several downed trees and repairs to damaged sections along the initial stretch of the trail.

The trail, which spans 40 miles between Grave Creek and Big Bend, is considered difficult due to its remote location, steep cliffs, and the potential for natural hazards such as landslides, fallen trees, and high creek water. Despite the reopening, officials advise caution, as hikers may still encounter unstable footing, erosion, and other storm-related impacts.

“The Rogue River Trail is beautiful this time of year and we worked hard to open it as quickly as possible,” said Justin Kelly, Grants Pass Field Manager. “Please watch out for additional hazards as you enjoy your public lands.”

The Rogue River National Recreation Trail follows the wild section of the Lower Rogue National Wild and Scenic River and offers access to some of southwestern Oregon’s most rugged terrain. The area features steep canyon walls, waterfalls, and numerous streams.

Visitors are encouraged to report any trail damage or hazards on BLM-managed lands to the Medford District Office at 541-618-2200.
