Cave Junction, Oregon- February 26, 2025 – A 63-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence after crashing into a fire engine at a gas station in Cave Junction, according to the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 11:47 a.m., deputies responded to a reported traffic crash at the 76 Gas Station. A private vehicle had collided with an Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) engine that was refueling at the location.
The driver of the private vehicle, identified as Alec James Varner, exhibited signs of intoxication, authorities said. Deputies conducted field sobriety tests, which led to Varner’s arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII).
Both vehicles sustained minor damage, but no injuries were reported. The IVFD engine remains operational and will continue to serve the community.
In a statement, the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the dangers of impaired driving and urged motorists to make responsible choices to ensure public safety.
