GRANTS PASS, Ore. (Sep. 24, 2026) — Customers at the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles office in Grants Pass now have a new way to complete some vehicle registration services without waiting in line at the counter.

The Grants Pass DMV, located at 162 NE Beacon Drive, became the first DMV office in Oregon to offer an in-office DMV Express Kiosk. The kiosk allows eligible customers to complete certain transactions in five minutes or less, without an appointment.

Customers can use the kiosk to renew a vehicle registration, print a copy of a vehicle registration, or replace a vehicle registration card and license plate stickers. Services are available in English and Spanish.

Customers completing a renewal can walk away with their printed registration and license plate stickers. The stickers include the vehicle’s license plate number, a feature available only through the kiosks that is intended to help prevent theft and fraud.

The kiosk is available during regular Grants Pass DMV office hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.

In addition to the required renewal fee, customers are charged a $4.95 vendor transaction fee for each kiosk transaction. The fee is collected by the kiosk vendor and is not collected or retained by Oregon DMV.

The Grants Pass kiosk accepts credit and debit cards, as well as contactless payments including Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. The Grants Pass machine does not accept cash.

“Having an Express Kiosk inside the Grants Pass office gives our community another convenient way to do business with DMV,” said DMV South Region Manager Jonah Kopp. “For eligible transactions, customers can simply walk in, use the kiosk and be on their way with no appointment and no waiting for a counter.”

The kiosk is designed to be safe and secure and does not retain customer information. DMV said additional transaction options are planned, including driver reinstatement fees and miscellaneous vehicle fees. A customer service survey will also eventually be available at the end of transactions.

Grants Pass DMV Customer Service Manager Karrie Wilson said the office is pleased to participate in the pilot program.

“Our team is really excited for Grants Pass to welcome the first in-office kiosk,” Wilson said. “Having this convenient resource available right here in our community will make it easier for customers to access services quickly and efficiently.”

The Grants Pass DMV is an appointment-based office with more than 800 appointments available online through DMV2U. The office also offers a limited number of same-day appointments on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers receive a specific time to return later that day, reducing the need to spend hours waiting in the office. Standby tickets are also available for customers who prefer to wait for an opening.

Oregon DMV launched its Express Kiosk program in December 2024, initially placing kiosks inside Fred Meyer stores in 10 communities: Beaverton, Bend, Eugene, Happy Valley, Hillsboro, North Medford, Oak Grove, Portland, Salem and Tualatin.

The Fred Meyer locations were selected in part because they provide customers with access to DMV self-service options during evenings and weekends.

The Oak Grove kiosk had the lowest usage among the 10 original locations, prompting DMV to consider moving it to an office where it could potentially serve more customers.

“Several offices volunteered to participate in the pilot,” said DMV Field Services Group Manager Dave McKay. “We did an analysis to determine where the kiosk could have the greatest impact for residents and the strongest potential for usage, considering factors such as customer needs and wait times.”

Based on that assessment, Grants Pass was selected as the pilot location for an in-office Express Kiosk.

Before visiting a DMV office, customers are encouraged to check DMV2U to determine whether their service can be completed online. The online system offers more than 30 common DMV transactions 24 hours a day.
