Medford’s Sports Facilities Drive Over $20 Million in Economic Impact in 2024

Medford, Oregon- The City of Medford’s investment in recreational facilities has yielded significant economic returns, with the Rogue Credit Union Community Complex (Rogue X) and Lithia & Driveway Fields collectively generating over $20 million for the local economy in 2024. The performance of these venues highlights the role of sports and events in supporting local businesses, sustaining jobs, and positioning Medford as a sports tourism destination in the Pacific Northwest.

Rogue X Delivers Strong First-Year Results

Rogue X, which opened on January 6, 2024, hosted 43 major events and welcomed more than 106,000 aquatics visitors in its inaugural year. The facility generated an estimated $6.7 million in economic impact.

Key contributions included:

• Basketball and Volleyball Tournaments: The Southern Oregon Open basketball tournament, featuring 108 teams, produced nearly $1 million in spending.

• Cornhole Expansion: Two major American Cornhole Organization (ACO) tournaments contributed to Medford securing the 2027 ACO World Championships.

• Trade Shows and Special Events: Events such as the Barnstormer’s Holiday Bazaar and Rod and Custom Show drew thousands of visitors and boosted local spending.

• Competitive Swimming: The Rogue Rapids swim club expanded to 130 members and plans to host district meets in 2025.

• Community Events: The venue hosted 920 birthday parties, becoming a popular site for local gatherings.

With a construction cost of $75.8 million, Rogue X’s first-year economic impact represented 8.8% of its total investment, demonstrating its value to the community.

Lithia & Driveway Fields Achieve Record Economic Impact

Lithia & Driveway Fields reached an all-time high of $13.4 million in estimated economic impact in 2024, welcoming over 1,800 teams and 240,000 visitors. Participation in youth baseball and fastpitch softball set new records.

Notable achievements included:

• Youth Baseball: Ten City-organized tournaments attracted 378 teams, with eight events selling out.

• Fastpitch Softball: A record 156 teams competed in spring tournaments.

• College Soccer Championships: The Cascade Collegiate Conference Soccer Championships brought 16 teams and generated $424,000 in local spending.

• Adult Softball: Participation grew 46%, marking the third consecutive year of growth.

Since opening in 2008, Lithia & Driveway Fields has generated an estimated $173 million in economic impact—more than five times its $32.5 million construction cost.
