North Medford High School Lockdown Lifted Following Gym Roof Collapse

Medford, Oregon– North Medford High School lifted its lockdown after the activation of Emergency Response Buttons (ERBs) at 8:41 a.m. today. Authorities confirmed that there was no threat to students or staff.

The alarm was triggered after several structural beams in the North High Gym collapsed under the weight of heavy snowfall, causing damage to electrical wiring. Emergency response crews were dispatched to assess and secure the site.

Medford Alert previously reported that officials had closed and secured the gym building over the weekend after a crack was discovered in one of the beams. No injuries were reported.

Emergency personnel are continuing their assessment to determine the full extent of the damage.

The Medford School District reported the following: “The recent historic snow storm led to an estimated 700,000 lbs of snow on top of the roof. This caused the beams to crack and later collapse.”

School operations have resumed as normal, although the gym remains off-limits pending further inspections.

Today, the roof of the North Medford High School gymnasium collapsed due to the weight of accumulated snow. Emergency services responded immediately, and thankfully, no injuries have been reported.

The gym remains isolated from the rest of campus, and students are being kept clear of the area. The building is not connected to other school structures, and crews are on-site assessing the damage.

Due to the closure of the school cafeteria, North Medford High School will be releasing students early today. Bus riders and students waiting for their parents can wait in the auditorium.
