Medford, Oregon– Newly released drone footage has provided a stark view of the damage caused by the partial collapse of the North Medford High School (NMHS) gym roof. Medford Police, in partnership with the Medford School District, deployed the drone to assess the interior and exterior of the compromised structure, revealing the full extent of the destruction.

The roof gave way yesterday morning following a historic snowstorm that blanketed the region with an unprecedented amount of snowfall. Officials estimate that approximately 700,000 pounds of snow and ice had accumulated on the roof before it gave way. Fortunately, the gym had already been evacuated and fenced off prior to the collapse, preventing potential serious injuries.

Assessment and Next Steps

In the wake of the collapse, school district officials, engineers, and other personnel are now evaluating the structure to determine whether repairs are feasible or if a full rebuild will be necessary. Given the size and scale of the gym, the decision will likely involve extensive structural analysis and budgetary considerations.

Ongoing Coverage

Medford Alert will continue monitoring developments as officials assess the damage and formulate recovery plans. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
