
Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford has issued a series of winter weather alerts for Jackson County, forecasting significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions through Friday morning.
Weather Alerts Issued
• Winter Weather Advisory: In effect until 7 p.m. PST Wednesday. Up to two inches of additional snow accumulation is expected.
• Winter Storm Warning: Effective from 4 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. PST Friday. Heavy snow accumulations between 4 and 7 inches are forecast, with up to 10 inches possible in higher terrain.
• Second Winter Weather Advisory: In effect from 4 p.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. PST Friday. Snow is expected to reach valley floors, with accumulations between 2 and 4 inches.
Affected Areas
The alerts cover several locations across Jackson County, including but not limited to:
• Above 1500 feet elevation: Jacksonville, Phoenix, Talent, Ashland, Ruch, Butte Falls, Trail, and Shady Cove.
• Above 2000 feet elevation: Ashland, Talent, Butte Falls, and key transportation routes such as I-5 and Highway 140.
• Valley floors: Medford, Central Point, Rogue River, Shady Cove, and highways including 62 and 238.
Travel and Safety Precautions
The NWS warns that travel conditions may be difficult, particularly during the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Motorists are advised to take the following precautions:
• Carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water.
• Reduce speed and exercise caution on icy and snowy roads.
• Check road conditions through 511 or visit tripcheck.com.
The weather service emphasizes preparedness and encourages residents to stay informed of changing conditions. Snowfall impacts are expected to be most severe in higher elevations but will extend to valley areas as the storm progresses.
