Klamath County, Oregon- Oregon State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 near milepost 249 in Klamath County on Sunday, February 2, resulting in two fatalities and multiple injuries.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a green Ford Expedition driven by Wyonna Elaine Weiser, 38, of Chiloquin, was traveling southbound when it slid sideways into the northbound lane.
The vehicle collided with a white Ford F-350 towing a horse trailer, operated by Franklin Scott Maricle, 31, of Bend. The impact pushed the Expedition into a ditch, while the F-350 came to a stop, blocking most of the highway.
Two passengers in the Expedition, Winnie Mae Hescock, 41, of Klamath Falls, and Laurice Lee Foster, 41, of Chiloquin, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Weiser, the driver of the Expedition, and passenger Wauseka Brown Jr., 56, of Chiloquin, were transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the F-350, Franklin Maricle, was uninjured. His passengers, Scott Nile Maricle, 58, Janelle Marci Maricle, 32, both of Bend, and two male juveniles aged 21 months and 13 months, were also uninjured.
The highway was closed for approximately one hour as authorities conducted an on-scene investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Oregon State Police were assisted by Chiloquin Fire and Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
