Winter Storm Warning Issued for Jackson County

Medford, Oregon- The National Weather Service (NWS) in Medford has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Jackson County, effective from 4 p.m. Sunday through 10 p.m. Monday. The warning applies to areas above 2,000 feet, with heavy snowfall anticipated.

Forecast Details

The NWS expects total snow accumulations between 4 and 12 inches above 2,000 feet, while areas below that elevation may receive 1 to 4 inches of snow. The heaviest snowfall is projected in the southern portion of the county, with the lowest snow levels expected from late Sunday night through Monday morning.

Key roadways likely to be impacted include portions of Highway 140, Highway 66, and Interstate 5.

Travel and Safety Concerns

The NWS warns that travel conditions may become hazardous, particularly during the Monday morning commute. Drivers are urged to reconsider travel plans and, if travel is unavoidable, to proceed with extreme caution.

Motorists are advised to equip their vehicles with winter storm kits containing essential items such as tire chains, booster cables, flashlights, shovels, blankets, and extra clothing. Additional supplies, including water and first-aid kits, are recommended in case of an emergency or vehicle stranding.

Residents in affected areas are encouraged to stay informed through local weather updates and to prepare for potential power outages. Emergency kits with essential supplies, including food, water, and medications, are advised.
