Suspect Arrested in Hit-and-Run Incident Near Rogue River

Rogue River, Oregon- A suspect is in custody following a hit-and-run crash on Sunday, January 26, that left a woman hospitalized. The incident occurred at approximately 5:51 p.m. in the 700 block of Queens Branch Road, a rural area near Rogue River.

Authorities report that the victim was attempting to regain control of her horse when she was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene at high speed without stopping. The woman sustained significant injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she is currently in stable condition. The horse was unharmed.

Multiple witnesses at the scene provided information to responding deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) and officers from the Rogue River Police Department.

Later that evening, JCSO deputies received a report of a stolen vehicle in the vicinity. Investigators linked the reported stolen vehicle to the crash but determined through further investigation that the vehicle had not been stolen and that the suspect had filed a false report.

On Tuesday, January 28, at approximately 6 p.m., JCSO deputies arrested 40-year-old Jason Allan Baker of Rogue River. He faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault, felony hit-and-run, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, tampering with evidence, aggravated driving while suspended, and initiating a false police report.

Baker was lodged in the Jackson County Jail. Authorities have not released additional information at this time.
