Portland, Oregon- At the request of Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, representatives from the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) and Providence Oregon have agreed to resume intensive, in-person mediation today in an effort to resolve an ongoing labor strike.
The mediation aims to address disputes that have led to the disruption of healthcare services and the temporary departure of nurses from their roles. Both sides have expressed a commitment to working diligently to reach a resolution and return healthcare staff to their duties as soon as possible.
A joint statement released by both parties emphasized their shared objective to expedite the negotiation process and find a mutually acceptable solution. The mediation sessions come after weeks of strained negotiations, prompting state intervention to bring the two sides back to the table.
Governor Kotek’s involvement underscores the significance of the strike’s impact on healthcare services in the state. Her office has not commented further on the specifics of the mediation but expressed optimism that continued dialogue will lead to a resolution.
Neither Providence Oregon nor the Oregon Nurses Association provided detailed updates on how close the sides are to reaching a consensus.
The resumption of mediation offers a critical opportunity for both sides to move forward and restore stability to healthcare services in Oregon.
Further updates are expected as negotiations progress.
