Bend, Oregon– Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning at the Centennial Parking Garage in downtown Bend, resulting in minor injuries to two teenagers.
The Bend Police Department responded to a report at approximately 12:56 a.m. of a shooting at 750 NW Lava Road. According to initial reports, an 18-year-old victim was being transported to St. Charles Bend hospital for treatment. Officers subsequently secured the scene and initiated an investigation.
Witnesses at the parking garage reported that a group of teenagers had been gathered near their vehicle on the top level of the structure when a red Dodge Challenger approached and parked nearby. Shortly after, a passenger in the Challenger allegedly discharged a firearm, believed to be a shotgun. The projectiles from the shot struck two teens, aged 17 and 18, causing minor injuries.
Investigators later identified the suspect as Genesis Zuniga Garcia, an 18-year-old resident of Terrebonne. On Monday morning, Garcia was arrested and charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, and one count of unlawful use of a weapon. He was booked into the Deschutes County Jail.
The firearm involved in the incident has not yet been recovered.
The Bend Police Department reports they are continuing to investigate the case.
