Jackson County, Oregon- A two-vehicle collision on Highway 140 in Jackson County claimed the life of one individual and left two others injured on Thursday afternoon. The crash occurred near milepost 31 at approximately 2:58 p.m., prompting an emergency response from the Oregon State Police (OSP).
According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet Colorado driven by 42-year-old Fabiola Salcedo of Dorris, California, was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The Chevrolet spun into the westbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a Subaru Forester. The Subaru was driven by 74-year-old Danny Ray Ebert of La Pine, Oregon, who was accompanied by 77-year-old Phyllis Ann Ebert, also of La Pine.
Salcedo was pronounced dead at the scene. Danny Ray Ebert and Phyllis Ann Ebert sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious and were transported to a nearby Medford hospital for treatment.
The section of Highway 140 where the crash occurred was closed for approximately 2.5 hours as authorities conducted their on-scene investigation. Early findings suggest that speed and road conditions contributed to the accident.
Assistance at the scene was provided by Jackson County Fire District 3, the Lakecreek Fire Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
